Galvanised metal has a protective zinc coating, designed to withstand weathering and corrosion. However, this creates a challenge when it comes to painting, as regular paints simply don’t adhere well, leading to peeling and flaking. In this guide, we’ll show you the best way to paint galvanised metal using Zinsser Bulls Eye® 1-2-3. This high-adhesion primer ensures that paint bonds securely to galvanised surfaces, making it ideal for a range of applications, from garage doors to gates.
Remove all visible signs of organic growth and treat the areas with Zinsser Mould Killer in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow to dry.
Ensure the surface is free from any contaminants and anything that could interfere with adhesion then degrease overall with methylated spirit frequently changing the cloth. Prime all bare metal with one full coat of Bulls Eye® 1-2-3 primer sealer in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow a minimum drying time of 1 hour in normal drying conditions.
For interior projects decorate with two full coats of PermaWhite® in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow a minimum drying time of two hours between coats. For exterior projects decorate with two full coats of AllCoat® Exterior in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow a minimum drying time of one hour between coats.
Yes, you can spray galvanised metal with an airless sprayer if you have suitably primed the surface.
