Painting over old wallpaper is often a practical solution that saves both time and money compared to the effort of stripping it all away. However, achieving a smooth, durable finish requires the right tools and products. Zinsser’s Wallpaper-Cover Up is ideal for painting over wallpaper, offering a specially formulated solution that not only primes the surface but also seals and blocks any stains or patterns, ensuring they won’t bleed through the topcoat.

All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Ensure all wallpaper is well adhered.
Clean down with Universal Degreaser and Cleaner to remove any contaminants. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry.
Remove all visible signs of organic growth and treat the areas with Zinsser Mould Killer in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow to dry.
Prime all areas to be decorated with one full coat of Zinsser Wallpaper Cover-Up in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow a minimum drying time of 4 hours in normal drying conditions. Apply evenly and avoid overspreading.
Dark colours may require a second coat. 15-30 minutes after initial application, using a wet on wet technique, with a lightly loaded roller.
*Best results are achieved by roller application, using a short pile (up to 5mm) mohair or microfibre roller. *
Decorate with two full coats of PermaWhite or Zinsser AllClean in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and drying times.
