How to paint PVC doors

Painting a PVC front door can dramatically enhance a home’s curb appeal, with the right Zinsser products, you can complete this transformation in just a few hours.

Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 and AllCoat Exterior Water Based both offer low-odour application, excellent adhesion and a conveniently fast drying time, making the process straightforward and efficient. Read on to find out how you can effectively paint PVC doors with Zinsser.

Required Steps

1
Step 1

Remove any loose or failing material by scraping or brushing with a stiff bristle brush until you reach a sound edge. Use a fine-grade abrasive paper to feather these edges smoothly.

Address any visible signs of organic growth by treating the affected areas with Zinsser Mould Killer and Remover. Allow to dry.

2
Step 2

Ensure the surface of the door is free from any contaminants, and anything that could interfere with adhesion, by cleaning with a damp cloth. Degrease the surface with Zinsser Degreaser & Cleaner, rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.

3
Step 3

Use masking tape to mask any areas you do not wish to paint such as door handles, letterboxes etc. You may also wish to remove decorations such as the door number too.

The next step is to prime overall with one full coat of Bulls Eye 1-2-3. Allow a minimum drying time of 1 hour in normal drying conditions.
